Two days after getting banned by Valve’s AntiCheat software, Hovik "KQLY" Tovmassian and Gordon "Sf" Giry kept a low profile. Both fired from their organizations, their careers in esport seem to be over. Since, the community is more than ever passionnate about this case making it look more and more like a witch-hunt. We should first list true facts then get in the interview with the former Titan.

Last 17th November, Simon "smn" Beck, a player from Alternate, got banned by the ESEA anti-cheat. He was then kicked from his team. Two days later, Sune "crZy" Hanser, a top Danish player, made a blog post on HTLV.org insinuating that some players could be cheating on lan. He also gave some solutions but mostly talked about a list of suspected players from smn. The day after, on the 20th November, at 7PM, Hovik "KQLY" Tovmassian and Simon "smn" Beck were banned by VAC at the same time. Only one hour later, another blog post appeared on HLTV.org by a certain seizune alias Rizla.

The latter is an active member of the cheating community. He only accused a few players, and more specifically Gordon "Sf" Giry who has been cheating for several years, according to him. He also said that Sf is one of the links leading to supex0. He also affirmed that he was contacted by KQLY, when he was looking for information regarding the supex0 cheat. He also confessed that he gave him the necessary information. Five hours later, this post took a whole new dimension as the Epsilon player Gordon "Sf" Giry got VAC banned.

A few minutes after this second earthquake, Eric "ipkane" Thunberg, ESEA co-founder, announced that they were "working with Valve and sharing their specific technologies so that more pro players would get banned". He then added "the results are starting to roll out with VAC bans tonight, more to come soon."

Then, only KQLY made a public statement on his Facebook fanpage, the following day at 11pm. He confessed using supex0’s cheat during a week and only in matchmaking or public servers. He also told that supex0 was saying that other pro players were using his software.

Nothing else was released from the major actors of this cheating scandal, either by Valve, ESEA, Sf, smn or KQLY.

In order to get the facts straight from the interested parties, the redaction tried to contact the three players involved in this case. Simon "smn" Beck and  Gordon "Sf" Giry refused to answer our questions,  Hovik "KQLY" Tovmassian has accepted to answer the following questions :

Can you please come back on the moment you saw you were VAC banned? How did your teammates react to that?

KQLY : I just arrived at the gaming house, because I was sick. Before our scrim against NiP, I started to play some deathmatch, and just as I left the server, I received the VAC message. They were all stunned, they couldn't understand what just happened. Myself, I had to leave the gaming house, I was ashamed to stay with them, and to see their faces.

A lot of players like fxy0 trash talked a lot about you, saying you had been cheating for several years online and at LAN. Can you swear you never used a cheat except during that specific week, in LAN events or official games?

What is a real shame is that today, people publish everything and anything. Regarding fxy0's case, he just gives his opinion, which is normal, but you can't give credibility to someone who is blacklisted by all top teams. He is strong, its a fact, but he has progress to make in other domains. He should not judge me, because he doesn't know me.

Skillwise, I had ups and downs, depending off the teams I played with. Back to the Clan Mystic days, my skill was higher than today, because I was free to do whatever I wanted, and having a calm leader like HaRts... You really are confident in all your moves, especially because nobody knew me and I could surprise them. It has been a huge boost for my reputation (don't forget KennyS’ level when he played for Clan Mystic).

Then when I played for LDLC, specially after my fail at Katowice, professionnal players knew my style, and they started countering me. It was harder for me to keep the level I had. There were ups and downs, my game was more prepared, more structured, less free, and of course with less frags. Long story short, I never had an amazing skill. I had some good moments, but there was also long periods where I just threw all the games, offline or online.

To conclude with, I failed my 2 first majors, both with my teams and as a player. If I cheated in LAN events, why wouldn’t I do it during the two big events?

How and why did you get in touch with supex0?

Regarding the supex0 case, a friend of mine had him on his friendslist and introduced me to him. Out of curiosity, I wanted to see what he had to offer, and how it was working. After some e-mails, he sent me login informations and his trial software for me to discover. If I wanted to continue using it, I had to recontact him but I never did it because I wasn’t interested. I had a salary, a great structure, "Titan" (really sorry), great teammates, a great manager, and I was making a living with my passion, playing video games.

What did supex0 offer you? Did he had a range of cheats for sale?

He had various sorts of aimbots and wallhacks. I’ve had only access to an aim assist.

Did he tell you the price if you wanted to keep using it?

No, I just had to contact him via e-mail if I wanted to know more about it.

Did he give you confidentiality assurance?

No, he only told me that no one elso would know but, being aware of his reputation, I trusted him blindly.

How did you setup the cheat?

It is ready to use. He sent me an executable file (which opened a command prompt) where I had to enter the login credentials he also gave me. Then, I just had to launch Counter-Strike and connect to a server. The cheat was already injected and I had a key to toggle it on and off.

During your trial period, did you find that the cheat was really unnoticeable? Do you think someone could use it at lan without being noticed?

I didn’t had any configuration window nor any other visual element ingame. The problem was that I had to login before launching Counter-Strike, which would be risky to do at a lan tournament. If someone sitting next to you sees what you are doing, it gets complicated. I, however, don’t know if there are other versions - especially the charged ones - simpler to use.

Were you able to change the cheat settings by yourself?

No. As I already said , it was a trial version with only the basic settings. I have no information about the paying version.

Did you cheat on your main Steam account?

I used the cheat on an alternative account which was also banned by VAC. The software does not inject itself into the game, but modifies some files of the CS:GO root somewhere on the computer. This is something I wasn’t aware of at the beginning, so any account on this computer could get banned. This is what happened to my main account.

Do you think that other professional players wil be banned because of the same cheat ?

All of those who used Supex0’s cheat have been banned, but there is other coders and other private cheat. (check the interview on  99damage.de) I don’t know any names,  I’ve always had suspicions about some professional players but as they are not detected, I can’t say anything.

Your CS carreer being over, what will you do in the upcoming days?

Beside my carreer, it was my job, my passion. Now, I don’t know, I will certainly keep streaming, I will play for fun. We never know what to expect. I’m waiting for things to settle down. It has raised doubt on Titan and that is unfortunate. They should not pay for the mistakes I’ve made…
